SIM cards and configuration
« on: September 16, 2016, 01:51:04 AM »
What are you all doing in regards to SIM cards and configuration for the WS40x and WS50x units?  We're just getting past our first few, and so far the plan is to continue with the Proemion SIM cards since they happen to also have the servers.  Has anyone been using just run of the mill Tmobile or others such as from your cell phones?  If so, was doing the configuration a hassle at all?

Hello FluidPowerTom,

we have already set up a telematics unit with a local SIM card provider.
The only thing you have to do is to change the APN setting which is done very fast.

I was just thinking about this and wondering my self. I received our first WS403 yesterday. I forgot I needed to get a sim card. We were going to get a sim card from Verizon Wireless so we could add it to the company bill but Verizon Wireless is not listed in the configuration. Can you use ANY sim card from any company?

Thanks,
Mike

It's got to be a SIM card that uses GSM technology instead of CDMA.  Verizon and Sprint are two that use CDMA, so SIM cards for them won't work is my understanding.  AT&T and TMobile use GSM, so they're the main providers whose cards will work.

Over the weekend I picked up a net10 sim card which contained sim cards for att and tmobile. I found the configuration page for net 10 for use with AT&T however the information listed doesn't match anything on the pre-filled APN network provider list. How do I go about getting these settings onto the WS403? Am I missing something that I need to get setup first with Proemion?

I am getting a double green flash then a single green flash then a solid red after a few minutes.

Thanks,
Mike Aalderink

Hi Mikeaa12!

I would be happy to help you out if you could send us more details to plus+1helpdesk@danfoss.com;

- I guess you are in the United States? Which one of the network providers did you choose in the list (see picture)?
- Which LED on your WS403 is flashing?
- Are the sims using CDMA, GSM/GPRS/EDGE or UMTS/HSDPA?

Best regards

Hi all!

The configuration info below is what’s necessary, some or all of the fields may be left blank. In general, if you don’t know\have the value, leave the variable blank.  You should be able to get this info from the SIM card supplier.

  • SIM PIN
  • Network Code
  • ISP Username
  • ISP Password
  • Primary DNS
  • Secondary DNS
  • APN
  • SMS Service Center

There is a database of suppliers in the configuration tool, but it’s always good to ask when you buy the card. These settings can be configured individually when the automatically populated ones are not available, simply choose the variable, input the new value, and choose Download All Entries.

FStelzer,

What SIM card have you been using? I grabbed and setup a NET10 GSM sim card labeled to work for AT&T and haven't been able to get any configurations to work.

Thanks,
Mike

//Edit I got the SIM card to configure to the point it is flashing single green then solid green. Seems to want to connect but not fully connecting to the server... Still working on this part.

Hello all,

Which SIM card/SIM carrier would be recommended for speed? I see and understand that GSM is the only option but does not that mean that 3G is the fastest network speed the Telematics device is capable of? We have been using the WS-503 unit and supplying them with the Proemion sold "M2M air" SIM card. Reading online that UMTS is supposed to be much faster download speeds than GSM

Thanks,

Jake

Hi Jake!

I can't really recommend a specific SIM carrier but I can confirm that a WS503 does support GSM/GPRS/EDGE (class 10 [MHz] 850/900/1800/1900) and UMTS/HSPA (six band [MHz] 800/850/900/1700/1900/2100 [MHz]). Meaning 3G is the fastest available net speed today. More details on the hardware itself can be found here;
